Weston was built for day trippers, and on a hot Saturday it still fills up like one. If you are staying with us, most of this is solved before you arrive - but it is worth knowing how the town works.
If you are staying at Harmony
Apartment One comes with its own free driveway space. For the other six there is free on-street parking on Park Place and the roads behind it, and a public car park a short walk away at twelve pounds a day.
The street outside is free in the evenings and overnight in most of the surrounding roads, but the restrictions change street by street. Read the sign on the pole nearest your car rather than the one at the end of the road.
The seafront
Marine Parade and Beach Road are pay and display, and they are the first thing to fill. They are also the most expensive way to park in Weston, and the least likely to have a space between eleven and three in August.
Two streets back is usually free or cheaper, and you lose about four minutes of walking.
The car parks
- The multi-storeys behind the high street are the reliable option in bad weather and on event days.
- The long-stay car parks near the station suit a full day out, and put you five minutes from the train if you are going on to Bristol.
- Beach Lawns fills first and empties last. Avoid it on a bank holiday.
Event days
Air Festival weekend, the Beach Race, carnival night and the bigger Tropicana events all close roads on the seafront and swallow every space in the middle of town. On those days, park once, in the morning, and walk everywhere.
The thing people get wrong
Driving onto the beach. The sand looks firm and the mud underneath is not, and the tide comes in faster than a car reverses. Every summer somebody finds this out. Leave it on the road.
