Things to do

Attractions, walks and days out near Harmony Apartments, and how far each one is.

The Beach, Weston-super-Mare Beach 50 metres

Right outside

The Beach

Cross the road and you are on it. Three miles of flat sand at low tide, and the second largest tidal range in the world - the sea goes a long way out and comes back quickly. Donkeys in summer, kites all year.

Map

Grand Pier, Weston-super-Mare Attraction 9 minutes

On the seafront

Grand Pier

The pavilion at the end has burned down twice, in 1930 and again in 2008, and been rebuilt both times. Go for the arcade, the go-kart track, the laser maze, and the view back at the town from halfway out over the water.

Map

Marine Lake, Weston-super-Mare Outdoors 7 minutes

North end of the bay

Marine Lake

A cove by Knightstone held behind a causeway, so it keeps its sea water whatever the tide is doing. Open-water swimmers use it year round. The walk along the causeway is the best five minutes in Weston.

Map

The Tropicana, Weston-super-Mare Attraction 20 minutes

Marine Parade

The Tropicana

The old lido, now an events space on the sand. Banksy filled it with Dismaland one summer. Check what is on before you go - it changes completely from one month to the next.

Street Art, Weston-super-Mare Culture 12 minutes

All over town

Street Art

Weston has quietly turned its gable ends into an outdoor gallery. Big pieces on the walls behind the high street, and a few you will only find by taking the wrong turning.

Weston Museum, Weston-super-Mare Culture 11 minutes

Burlington Street

Weston Museum

Free, small, and much better than it needs to be. The seaside gallery is the reason to go, and the courtyard cafe is where the town actually drinks its coffee.

Map

Grove Park, Weston-super-Mare Outdoors 5 minutes

Behind the seafront

Grove Park

A steep Victorian park cut into the hillside, with a bandstand at the bottom and a view over the roofs to the water from the top path. The quickest way to be somewhere green.

Map

Brean Down, Weston-super-Mare Outdoors 25 minutes by car

South of the bay

Brean Down

A limestone headland running a mile and a half out into the Channel, with a Victorian fort at the end of it. Steps up, wind across the top, and the whole of Somerset behind you.

Map

Cheddar Gorge, Weston-super-Mare Day out 25 minutes by car

The Mendips

Cheddar Gorge

The deepest gorge in the country, with caves under it and a road through the middle. Do the clifftop walk first and the caves after, and buy the cheese on the way out.

Map

Helicopter Museum, Weston-super-Mare Attraction 10 minutes by car

Locking Moor Road

Helicopter Museum

The largest helicopter collection in the world, in a hangar on the edge of town. Two royal helicopters, a Russian gunship, and open-cockpit days where you can sit in them.

Map

Clevedon Pier, Weston-super-Mare Day out 25 minutes by car

Up the coast

Clevedon Pier

The only Grade I listed pier in England, and worth the drive for the ironwork alone. Fish and chips on the front, then the Poets Walk round the headland.

Map

Eating Out, Weston-super-Mare Food 5 minutes

Five minutes out the door

Eating Out

The Old Thatched Cottage and Il Michelangelo are both five minutes away, and The Imperial, Revo Kitchen and The Ginger Pig Kitchen are six.
