Weston-super-Mare with young children

Family · 4 min read

Sand, donkeys, and the practical things nobody tells you until you are already there.

Weston has been doing this for a hundred and fifty years and it shows. Most of what small children want is within ten minutes of the sea wall.

The beach

Flat, enormous, and firm enough to push a buggy across at low tide. Donkeys in summer at the pier end. The water is a long walk out when the tide is down, so for actual paddling, go at high tide or use the Marine Lake instead.

The pier

Undercover, which matters. Soft play, arcade, go-karts, and a food court that will feed a fussy four-year-old without a scene.

Green space

  • Grove Park - a playground, a bandstand, and a hill to run down.
  • Marine Lake - sea water at any tide, and the calmest water in town.
  • The water park on the seafront, in summer, which is free and will soak everyone.

Further out

Puxton Park is a farm park about fifteen minutes away with the biggest indoor play barn in the South West, and Court Farm is another. Both are set up for rain. The Helicopter Museum has open-cockpit days where children can sit in them, which is worth timing a visit around.

Staying with us

Apartment Three has two bedrooms and sleeps four - a double and two singles - with a fully equipped kitchen and a breakfast bar. There are toys, buckets and spades in the apartment, and travel cots, high chairs and baby monitors on request. One child of three or under stays free using existing bedding.

There is no lift. Apartment One is the only one on the ground floor, with its own private entrance, and it is the easy one for a buggy.
